It goes without saying that brakes are an important part of your BMW’s safety and performance. They should never be taken for granted, or compromised. That’s why we only use original parts and components when performing a BMW brake repair or replacement.

Always have your BMW brake repair or replacement carried out by a qualified technician. The service needs to be done by a mechanic with the right training and experience, with access to the latest diagnostic software and service equipment. Trust us – brakes are not the place to take shortcuts.

Below, we take a look at some common questions around brake repair and replacement.

Too many owners are seduced by cheap prices offered by aftermarket brake and service outlets who use inferior parts. The problem with these poorly made pads and discs is that they cause many issues like brake squeal and brake shudder. The only way to rectify squealing and shuddering brakes is to replace them again, costing you more money.

Original BMW brakes do not squeal and do not shudder and are guaranteed for two years, which is why you should always insist on original parts.

Replace them properly and replace them once; it’s cheaper in the long run!

Anywhere between 15,000 and 70,000 kilometres. It’s a frustratingly large range, but a lot of it comes down to driving style. When you brake, the pads are pressed against the brake discs, causing friction and slowing you down. This friction is also what wears the pads, so every time you use your brakes, the pads get a little more worn.

Aggressive braking presses the pads into the discs harder, wearing them faster. If you drive defensively, giving yourself plenty of time to slow down, you won’t have to be so hard on the brake pedal and the pads will have a greater chance of making it to the 70,000-kilometre mark.

Most likely because the components are inferior. Cheap pads and discs are cheap for a reason; they are poorly made from inferior materials, and cause issues such as shuddering and squealing. The only way to fix this is to have them replaced with original components. More expensive in the short term – cheaper in the long run.
